On those dark and gloomy winter days, it is important not to flood your home with light. Rather than flooding your home with multiple light sources, the aim is to introduce gentle warmth through multiple light sources, creating adjacent layers within your home's design. This will help to emphasize architectural features and decor elements while creating visual interest and turning your home into a warm snug haven.

Consider making a small change to your home to stay cosey in the winter. Replacing some key light bulbs around your home can make a dramatic affect this winter. Light bulbs come in a variety of colour temperatures which are measured in kelvin. Lower kelvin bulbs emit a warmer, orange/yellowish colour whereas higher kelvin results in a whiter to bluer colour. It is important to consider the colour globe you choose as it plays a big role as to how you experience a space, affecting the appearance and mood of the room. Warm lighting feels natural in the evenings and promotes relaxation which is ideal for cosey winter moments.

Nothing says cosey like a good lamp. Effective and easy to use, a lamp will help create a soft and relaxing space. Combine floor and table lamps into your home's design to add a beautiful blend of utility and style. As table and floor lamps come in a variety of styles your opportunities are endless. Lamps aren’t permanent fixtures which allows us to experiment within a space. For example, adding a splash of colour with a table lamp or modern luxury with a contemporary designed standing lamp which can amplify your homes décor, helping to refresh and update your space. If you’re hesitant to experiment with warmer light bulbs this winter, we recommend changing out the light bulbs in your lamps first as it’s far easier to swop out than a light bulb in your ceiling.

To properly light your home, consider how each room is going to be used, don’t be afraid to use different colour globes in one room, this will assist you with changing between different lighting applications for the desired occasion. As mentioned above, warmer colours promote relaxation whereas cooler lighting creates a natural light that tends to keep us alert. Separate switching and dimming will be key to achieving your desired lighting plan for your home. Putting cooler tones into your main task light (a ceiling light for example) and then a warmer light bulb into a wall bracket on a separate light switch will allow you to use the ceiling light when you are performing a task however when you’ve completed that task, turning off the bright task light and switching to the wall bracket will allow you to relax and unwind

The below advice is a guideline to assist you in achieving the ideal end result within your space:
