Lighting A Braai Area

No more headlamps, torches or phone lights. A real braai master needs a real lighting design.
Here are a few basic guidelines on lighting a braai area.

SHOP OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING

Task Lights

Just like we use Task Lighting in the kitchen, a Task Light placed above or adjacent to the braai increases visibility in the food prep and cooking area. Not only is it essential for safety but may save you multiple trips inside to check how cooked your food is.

Separate Switching For Entertaining

Consider placing your task light on a separate switch and/or dimmer to convert the light to an ambient (or mood) light, ideal for entertaining.

Mood Lighting

A mood light can make or break the ambience around the braai area. The addition of footlights, (placed in the wall as well as the floor) creates an aesthetic glow to the space.

Finally, placing garden spikes aimed at surrounding walls creates a reflective ambient glow without blinding guests.
