Energy Saving Advice

There are numerous ways in which we can save electricity in our own households:

  • Change your regular household lamps for the Compact Fluorescent Lamps(CFL’s).The CFL uses approximately 20% of the electricity of a household lamp and lasts around 6000 hours. You will not only save on electricity but also on the inconvenience of having to change household lamps as these only last around 1000 hours.
  • Use a dimmer on your fittings where possible. All incandescent fittings can be dimmed. Currently the CFL’s and standard fluorescents cannot be dimmed. Certain low voltage fittings can be dimmed. Confirm with our staff which light fittings can be dimmed.
  • Use a day-night sensor or timer with your outdoor fittings. This will not only save electricity but also improve your security as the light will turn on automatically when it is dark, even when you are not at home.
  • Turn off the lights when you are not in the room.
  • Use the lowest wattage lamp that will still generate sufficient light for a particular area.
  • Use portable lights (Table lamps & Floor lamps) to light a room as opposed to the larger central light fittings if you are not using the entire room.
  • Open curtains and blinds during the day as opposed to switching on the lights.
